CALIFORNIA LEGISLATION
The Quiet Little Place team lit an emotional flame with the Sin by Silence campaign that has fueled a movement leading all the way to the California State Capitol. After countless conference calls, meetings, trips to Sacramento, and speaking at legislative hearings, the Sin by Silence Bills (AB 593 & AB 1593) were signed into law by Governor Brown and went into effect on January 1, 2013 to change the path of freedom for over 7,000 domestic violence survivors currently behind bars.
“Years ago when we started this journey, I had no idea what change would come through creating Sin by Silence, but I knew I couldn’t give up hope that we could make a difference to help free incarcerated, battered women,” stated Olivia Klaus. “The passing of the Sin by Silence Bills brings together a decade long journey of work to help right the wrong in this world. Now that legislative history has been made in California, we hope to carry on to the rest of the country.”
This effort would not have happened without the Sin by Silence network who joined with us, signed petitions, made calls to legislators and Governor Brown to ensure these bills became law!
